How to Fix a Jammed Litter Robot Globe

A jammed globe is usually easy to fix. Follow these steps to get your Litter Robot running again.

Safety First: Always unplug your Litter Robot before attempting to fix a jam. Never reach into the globe while the unit is powered on.

Signs of a Globe Jam

  • Solid red light with flashing yellow lights
  • Globe stops mid-rotation
  • Unusual grinding or clicking noises
  • Globe won't rotate when cycle button is pressed

Step-by-Step Jam Fix

Step 1: Power Off

Unplug the unit from the wall outlet. Wait 10 seconds before proceeding.

Step 2: Remove the Bonnet

  1. Locate the bonnet release tabs on either side
  2. Press the tabs and lift the bonnet off
  3. Set the bonnet aside

Step 3: Remove the Globe

  1. If the globe is stuck mid-rotation, gently rotate it back to the home position (opening facing up)
  2. Lift the globe straight up and off the base
  3. Set it aside on a protected surface

Step 4: Inspect for Obstructions

Check these common jam locations:

  • Waste port: Look for litter clumps blocking the opening to the drawer
  • Base interior: Check for debris around the motor and gear assembly
  • Globe interior: Look for large clumps stuck to the screen or walls
  • Gear teeth: Inspect the black gear ring on the globe for debris

Step 5: Check Seal Strips

The seal strips create a barrier that keeps litter in the globe during rotation:

  • Locate the rubber seal strips around the waste port and globe edge
  • Ensure they're properly seated in their grooves
  • Replace if torn or missing (available from Litter Robot)

Step 6: Inspect the Motor

Look at the motor assembly in the base:

  • Check that the motor is securely mounted
  • Look for any visible damage or loose wires
  • Ensure the drive gear is clean and not stripped

Step 7: Reassemble

  1. Place the globe back on the base, aligning the gear ring with the drive gear
  2. Rotate the globe gently to ensure it seats properly
  3. Reattach the bonnet, pressing until you hear two clicks
  4. Plug the unit back in

Step 8: Test

  1. Wait for the unit to complete its startup cycle
  2. Press the Cycle button to run a manual cycle
  3. Watch for smooth rotation without strange noises

Preventing Future Jams

  • Don't overfill: Keep litter below the MAX fill line
  • Use clumping litter: Non-clumping litter can cause buildup
  • Regular cleaning: Deep clean the unit every 1-3 months
  • Check seal strips monthly: Replace worn strips before they cause issues

When to Contact Support

Contact Litter Robot support if:

  • The jam persists after following these steps
  • You notice a burning smell
  • The motor appears damaged
  • Your unit is still under warranty
